Computer Update Policy
Patch management is crucial for the security and integrity of any system or software. It involves regularly updating and applying patches to software applications, operating systems, and devices to fix vulnerabilities and address known security issues. By maintaining an effective patch management strategy, organizations can protect themselves from potential cyber‑attacks, data breaches, and system compromises. It ensures that the software is up to date with the latest security measures and helps maintain overall stability and performance. Regular patching is also key for regulatory compliance and for reducing the risk of security incidents.
Below are the four key points of our update policy:
- Update Schedule Every Tuesday at 10:00 PM (local time), your computer will receive updates. If your computer is off or not connected to the internet at that time, don’t worry the updates will start as soon as it’s back online.
- Pending Reboot Check Before updates begin, your computer checks whether it must restart first. If it does, you’ll see a message informing you that your computer will restart within the next 30 minutes. This pre‑update restart cannot be delayed, as it’s required to ensure the updates install correctly.
- Update Installation If no pre‑update restart is required, your computer will proceed to install the updates automatically.
- Post Update Reboot After the updates are installed, you’ll receive a prompt to restart. You may choose how long to postpone this reboot, but no later than 17:00 (5:00 PM) local time, at which point the restart will be forced to complete the installation. The system will send periodic reminders until you reboot. If you are not logged in at 17:00, the restart will be enforced at the first available opportunity to finalize the updates.
