How to Wipe your Macbook


This manual provides instructions for organization employees on how to reset the laptop and prepare it for use by a new user remotely.

Prerequisites:


- Macbook
- Charger
- Available Wifi Connection
- Active Support Ticket Including (Device Serial Number, New User's Name, etc.)

Instructions:


Please read the instructions carefully beforehand to ensure that you follow all the steps correctly. The processes need to be followed in the order mentioned below.

Terminating account process:



Create a "Change Service" ticket and fill in the information for the user leaving the company, including the serial number. You can do this by visiting the following link: https://www.supportportal.eu/en-US/workplace-change
On the given date of the user leaving, the wipe command will also be executed, so please ensure that the departing user no longer requires any data on the device.
The laptop can be stored and is not needed in this process.
When the date arrives, a helpdesk employee will run the wipe command. The next time the new user opens the laptop and connects to the wifi, it will automatically reset.

Request laptop process:



Create a "Request Service" ticket and fill in the information for the user who the laptop needs to be for, including the serial number of the device. You can do this by visiting the following link: https://www.supportportal.eu/en-US/request-new-workplace/
The helpdesk employee will directly assign the new user to the laptop and will confirm this via email when this has been done.
The laptop can be given to the new user to follow the installation instructions.

User instructions process:



Open the laptop, connect it to an available network.
The laptop will automatically recognize the wipe command and start the wipe process.

After the wipe command has been executed, the device will automatically shut down and restart after 30 seconds.
After a few minutes, you will automatically end up on the "Activate your Mac" page.
Connect to an available network again, and when it says "Your Mac is activated", click on restart.

When you have restarted the device, you will automatically land on this page.

Click on the option called "Disk Utility."

When you are in Disk Utility, click on Internal Macintosh HD if it's not already selected.
Click on the option called "Erase" in the top right.
When you have clicked on Erase, you will see this screen.

Do not change anything here and click on Erase. This will take a few seconds and you can click on Done.
Exit this screen by clicking the red dot in the top left.

Now you are on the home screen again. Click on "Reinstall macOS (Version)" and then click on continue.
Click on continue, agree, and then agree again to accept the software license agreement.
Select the Macintosh HD disk that is available, which should be the only available disk, and then click continue.
The device will start the reinstalling macOS process, which can take up to an hour. Please ensure that your device is connected to the power.

When the device is done with the reinstallation process, you will automatically end up here.

From here, you can personalize everything until you see this screen.

From here, it can take a couple of minutes to configure your device via the Remote Management Software. You don't have to do anything.
Once it's done, you can continue and personalize everything again. When you are asked to restore a backup from a Time Machine, you have to skip it.

When you are on the home screen, you don't have to do anything, and you can proceed. Everything will be automatically installed within 60 minutes.
