Preparation of MacBook macOS for return
How do I prepare my old MacBook for return?
This manual provides instructions for employees of organizations that make use of leasing the hardware. We have provided a step by step guide on how to smoothly transfer files and folders from your old MacBook to your new one.
Prerequisites:
- New MacBook
- Logins for your apps (e.g. Keeper, Microsoft 365, Google Chrome)
- Company email address (e.g. name@cloudconnected.nl)
Instructions:
We have provided 2 sets of instructions depending on what suite your organization is using.
My organization uses Google Workspace:
Step 1: In Google Drive enable the sync of your desktop and documents in Google Drive settings. You can find this under "preferences" and then "My Mac" in the Google Drive app. This will transfer all files on your desktop and in your Documents folder to your new MacBook.

Syncing your 'Downloads' folder is not recommended as it can take up a lot of storage space.
Step 2: Make sure you are logged in to Chrome or Microsoft Edge with your personal work account, and enable synchronization if it has not been done already.
Step 3: Make sure you have all your login credentials on hand, such as your Google account and any other accounts you use.
Step 4: Open the Keeper app or web extension on your old laptop and keep it open. We will need it shortly for the new laptop installation. You can move on the next steps here
My organization uses Microsoft 365:
Step 1: Enable synchronization of your desktop and documents in the settings of Microsoft OneDrive. You can find this by clicking on the OneDrive icon. Afterwards, click on the "Backup" option, and then on "Manage backup". From here, you can start the backup of your desktop and documents folder.
